Spherical Bearings are designed for very high vertical, horizontal and lateral loads and where large rotational structural displacement need to be accommodated. Spherical bridge bearing is composed by top plate, base plate, convex middle plate and two teflon plates of different composition. Opposite the top plate, it is a concave spherical in the base plate, and the PTFE plate between them. Beam rotation through spherical surfaces and PTFE plate sliding; stainless steel plate on the top plate and another PTFE plates on the intermediate steel plate perform the second sliding surface, realized beam stretching displacement produced by temperature factors, Spherical bridge bearing transfers force reliably and rotation performance is consistent.

Types of Spherical Bearings

Similar to pot bearing, spherical bridge bearings are available in fixed type, guided type and free sliding types .

Main technical performance

■Spherical bearing vertical loading capacity (kN): 1000,1500,2000,2500,3000,4000,5000,6000,

7000,8000,9000,10000,12500, 15000,17500,20000.

■Design displacement of spherical bearing

Bridge in longitudinal direction1000 - 2500 kN e = ±50 mm e =±100 mm.

3000 - 20000 kN e = ±50 mm e =±100 mm e = ±150 mm.

Bridge in transverse direction 

Free sliding spherical bearing e =±40 mm.

The design displacement can be customized according to the project requirements).

■Design friction coefficient of spherical bearing (in condition of PTFE layer with silicon grease lubrication and stresses about 30 MPa).

Normal temperature type: 0.03.

Cold resistant type: 0.05.

Installation details of Spherical Bearings

1.Spherical Bearings shall not be used on bridges where the concrete for the beam, pier and platform is lower than 35°C, unless specially approved by the designer.

2.Install Spherical Bearings: To adjust bearing level putting wedges under bearing base plate, and to make sure (real factory) Spherical Bearing for Bridge base plate above the pier and platform top 20 〜 50mm.Centerthe Spherical bearing to the right place. Filling inbolt holes and bearing bottom cushion withepoxy mortar.

3.The Spherical Bearings shall connect with the beam, pier and platform with the embedded bolts. If necessary, welding to the embedded steel plate is allowed, but cautions shallbe taken to bearing and concrete being damaged by the high heat from the steel bearing being welded.

4.When installation, the level of the Spherical Bearings shall accord with the design,and the supporting face shall be horizontal and smooth. The difference in height of the four corners of bearing shall not exceed 2mm.
